If you want to participate in the mail art exchange, please mail something you've created (postcard, zine, collage, drawing, etc.) to: Ken B. Miller, PO Box 101, Newtown, PA 18940-0101 USA, and I'll send you one of my handmade postcards. Because of time constraints, I don't post everything I receive, but I might post a photo of your work here.

I received two interesting art calls recently...
First, I received a nice letter from David (ACE 487) about the Art Cover Exchange, which is a group of people who exchange "covers", or decorated envelopes. The group traces their origins back to 1935! Check out their website at: www.artcoverexchange.org or write to Joseph Doles, 105 Lawson Rd., Rochester, NY 14616-1444.
Next, I received a postcard for a Pink Mail Art Show in Sacramento:
Aug. 21, 2016: 16:11 | 23330
New outgoing collage postcards based on photos from the inimitable Steve Factory, who sent me hundreds (maybe thousands) of 4" x 6" prints in the 1990's and 2000's...
Aug. 14, 2016: 19:31 | 22757
Some new mail art from some old friends... from Barry Edgar Pilcher from England, a take on the collage I sent him...
Another excellent perforated stamp sheet from the excellent John Held, Jr. from San Francisco...
Finally, an awesome pizza micro collage from Karen Wood of Big Bear Lake, CA...

DepARTures
Art as a map to find yourself and the meaning of things. The travel, a timeless theme, more than ever current in this time of great mutations, great migrations and transformations, has been chosen for this new initiative of Mail Art of international significance, now in its sixth edition.
Art has the privilege of being able to translate and synthesize dreams, showing expectations, desires and pain. Art draws maps to orient ourselves in a disjointed and fragmented world, marked by contradictions and tragedies, but also driven by ideals and utopian visions.
Art is the document of a journey through time and space, reading and interpreting the events inside and outside of us, an evidence of encounters and relationships, similarities and contrasts.
Art can be a means to steer and document stages of our inner journey, the trip into the soul of women and men. Art is a nautical chart that advises a possible route to regain what has been lost but we will never stop searching for.
This becomes even more interesting in this era where travel is also virtual, often only virtual. Virtual travels can't reach so deep and through the screen of a computer or a mobile phone we can only find a way of knowing the world in a more detached and superficial way, but no chance to change and evolve ourselves.
This means that the experience of travelling, as a path created by art, becomes a way to internalize and to realign the surrounding reality, reinterpreting everything that from the world comes to the conscience, the feeling and the deeper essence of the artist.
"DepARTures"/"eARThbound"
invites us to share an intimate look, often inscrutable, at the compass that makes us rediscover the route after the shipwreck, redesigning a man's travels between heaven and earth.
Thoughts, fears and madness represented by a gesture, a stroke of color by the artist, the tale of a mental journey in which words lose their importance.
It's up to us to immerse ourselves in this travel, where the eye is in harmony with the soul, in an unexpected and unpredictable dimension that creates a space with the signs of experience.
THE ARTIST IS NOT REQUIRED TO PAY ANY FEE
Deadline: September 20, 2016
The initiative includes the creation of an image – in free technique, on paper or cardboard:
- UNI A4 Size (cm 29,7 x 21,1)
- addressed to BIBLIOTECA COMUNALE - Piazza Cavalieri Caccia - 00060 Sant’Oreste – Rome (Italy);
- Insert in the envelope your personal data, contact information, and possibly a brief biography and some artistic references.
The works will be preserved as a heritage of the City of Sant’Oreste and later will be exhibited in art galleries, museums and elsewhere will be required to spread this kind of art form and to promote the artists.
